Build with Us

San Francisco Bay Area · Full Time · On-site

Float Cargo is building the next era of emissions-free, long-haul cargo logistics - starting with autonomous airships designed for high-efficiency freight.

We’re looking for founding engineers who thrive on first-principles thinking, cross-disciplinary design, and hands-on iteration. Whether you come from mechanical or electrical roots, what matters is that you can take ideas from sketch to sky - designing, fabricating, wiring, and flying real systems.

What You’ll Do

  • Design, prototype, and test the first generation of flight hardware - from structural assemblies to power and control systems.
  • Develop and integrate onboard electronics: power distribution, PCB and harness design, motor controllers, and sensor interfaces.
  • Jump between modeling, fabrication, wiring, and flight testing as needed - whatever moves the vehicle forward fastest.
  • Own design decisions end-to-end: requirements, modeling, fabrication, and validation.
  • Build the tools, test rigs, and documentation that shape our early engineering culture.
  • Work directly with the founder to translate ambitious performance goals into flying hardware - rapidly and safely.

What We’re Looking For

  • Evidence of deep first-principles thinking - you reduce problems to physics and logic before reaching for precedent.
  • A hands-on bias - you’re happiest when designing, cutting, soldering, and testing in quick loops.
  • The ability to span disciplines - you may lean ME or EE, but you’re fluent enough in both to close gaps yourself or with a teammate.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and constrained resources - you can invent the missing tool, fixture, or method on the fly.
  • A track record (personal or professional) of building real things that work - prototypes, experiments, vehicles, instruments, or contraptions.
  • Curiosity, rigor, and taste - you care about why something works as much as that it does.
